Elementary Families: Today we had an unexpected fire drill at the Elementary School. The alarm was initiated by a smoke sensor that failed in one of our hallway areas. The students used the skills that we have practiced and did an excellent job evacuating the building. The smoke sensor was replaced and all students returned to their field day activities within a few minutes. We thank our local firefighters and building and grounds crew for their quick response.

Yesterday during assembly a student, without being prompted, helped another tie his shoe when he noticed his classmate struggling. We happened to catch the moment on camera. Even at the Elementary level, students help create a space where everyone belongs. Happy Wednesday!

Our Board of Education President, Tracy Young, talked about a recent New York Times article that asked "What is school for?" during our September Superintendent's Conference. In the opinion piece, 12 reasons why schools exist are given. Responses ranged from "School is for Learning to Read" to "School is for Teaching." Today, we'd like to add lucky number 13 to that list. Among many other things, here at Greenville, school is for making memories. Photo by Audrey Matott.
