FFA News

The goal of Future Farmers of America (FFA) is to promote and grow leadership. While FFA is an agricultural-based organization, students do not have to be farmers to be in FFA, it’s for everyone! Throughout the year, students can attend meetings and events on the local and national levels, go on trips, compete in contests, and participate in fundraising and community service events. Students can make friends and build connections with people from all over the nation. Our chapter has seen multiple New York State Officers, a National FFA Officer, State Star Farmers, national contest winners, and numerous national award winners. There is no limit to what members can achieve through FFA! Please see our calendar which includes all of FFA events throughout the year (subject to change).

FAQs

1. Any student in grades 6-12 can join FFA! Members in grades 6-8 will be Junior FFA members. Members in grades 9-12 will be Senior FFA members.

2. Member Meetings (as seen on the calendar) are from 3pm-4pm. Students may stay after school for the meeting and ride the late bus home or get picked up.

3. AET Meeting / Contest Prep days are for students who would like to compete in a contest or fill out an application to win a state or national award. These are also from 3pm-4pm.

4. The FFA Greenery sale is FFA’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Students will help make wreaths, centerpieces, gnomes, and more! The dates of the greenery sale prep are on the calendar. Students can elect to stay after to help. They may ride the bus home at 4, or stay late and get picked up by a parent.

5. There is a requirement of 10 participation points (attendance at events) for all students going on field trips. This ensures that members are earning the chance to go on field trips by being active in our chapter.

6. Some FFA events can be costly. We do our best to fundraise for the chapter and cover the costs of trips but it’s not always possible. Students have the opportunity to fundraise throughout the year and earn scholarships to go on different trips. We have numerous community members and businesses that also help to provide scholarships. We encourage all of our members to take advantage of these opportunities to offset the cost to families.

7. Parents can join our Google Classroom using the code 52n56ps. Parents can also sign up for text messages by texting @3e9kgc to 81010. FFA is on Facebook as “Greenville Ag Education & FFA” and on Instagram @greenvilleag. Lastly, you can contact all advisors with any questions by sending an email to ffa@greenvillecsd.org. Information for all meetings and events is shared on the daily bulletin and the morning announcements.

8. All students interested in joining FFA should see one of the advisors Rachel Hall and Lynn Hughes for Senior FFA, Brady Rogers and Renee Royer for Junior FFA for a membership form and calendar of events. There is a $15 membership fee to cover state and national membership of students. If you are unable to cover the fee, please speak to an advisor for help.
