Dear Families,
Fall has arrived, and we are extremely excited about all of the great learning our students are demonstrating!
First-grade students demonstrated some fantastic math skills as they described the differences between two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional shapes. I listened to students explain the properties of three-dimensional shapes by talking about vertices, faces, and corners. That is impressive thinking! First graders also had the opportunity to release butterflies as they learned about the life, habitat, and needs of monarch butterflies. Thank you to our classroom teachers for leading these projects!
Fifth graders are reading a novel about a young girl in NYC (after September 11, 2001). The children have been noticing how characters present differently based on circumstances. Fifth graders collected evidence from the author about how the characters acted when they were with their friends, and compared that to how they acted when with their parents. I was pleased to see their deep thinking as they analyzed the text!
On Thursday we celebrated Fire Safety Day with a number of first responders from our community. The theme for 2021 is Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety. Please talk to your children about what your family would do in the event of an emergency, and make a plan about how to exit your home, and where your family would meet outside.
Students in grades 4 and 5 had the opportunity to participate in the fall intramural program; the volleyball tournament was incredible! Thank you to Coach Bruce for leading this fun event for our students. We are eager to have every one of our older students take advantage of at least one special program that is offered outside of their regular classroom.
This weekend includes Columbus Day (no school on Monday). School yearbook photo/ picture day is Tuesday, please help your child decide what to wear on this special day!
