Students at the elementary school are attending bus safety presentations this week with Ms. Mary and Ms. Kristin, our Transportation Supervisor and Dispatcher! Students learned about...
⭐ Bus Stop Safety
- Be outside 5 minutes early for the bus. You can prepare the night before by packing your backpack and picking out your clothes.
- While you're waiting, stand 10 steps back from the road.
- Always wait for the driver's signal before crossing the street.
-Don't push and shove when getting on the bus, stand in a line and use the handrail (it's a big step).
- Never run after the bus. If you miss the bus, go inside and have your trusted adult call Ms. Mary at the bus garage.
- If you ever feel unsafe at the bus stop, tell an adult or go back inside.
⭐ Bus Rider Safety
- When you get on the bus, sit down quickly. We don't want to hold up traffic, and it's not safe to stand while riding the bus!
-Once you find your seat, stay seated (don't switch seats).
-Keep a level 2 voice on the bus (normal voice, no yelling).
- Be kind to EVERYONE, that includes the bus driver. You can do this by keeping your hands and feet to yourself, using kind words, and following directions.
-Hold your backpack on your lap and don't take anything out.
- There's no eating or drinking on the bus (except water). We have this rule for a few reasons. First, we don't want you to choke. We also need to be respectful of people on the bus who have allergies. We also don't want to make a mess for the bus driver to clean up, and we don't want any animals coming onto the bus at night because of food on the ground!
- When you get to school, stay seated until it's time to get off the bus.
⭐Departure Safety
- No pushing and shoving.
- Never stop at the mailbox when getting off the bus.
- Stay 15 steps in front of the bus so the driver can see you.
- Wait for the signal to cross.
- Don't forget to wait for the driver's signals and look both ways before crossing. The horn means danger! If the driver honks the horn, turn back right away.
Following these tips, we can make sure everyone stays safe on the school bus!
