The Board of Education approved the appointment of Matthew Urban as Elementary School Principal on Monday, April 8, 2024. Mr. Urban is a passionate educator with over 20 years of experience and a strong track record of fostering academic and social growth. His background includes roles as a general education teacher and special education teacher, as well as experience in both elementary and high school settings - all of which equip him with the expertise needed for success in his new position.
After Monday’s meeting, Mr. Urban shared his appreciation for the school community. “The professionalism, pride, kindness, and enthusiasm of those I met throughout the interview process was incredible. I immediately felt welcome.”
When asked about his vision for the elementary school, he said he envisions a "collaborative community of learners that encourages positive relationships, celebrates academic and social growth, and provides unforgettable experiences for students and staff."
As for his leadership style, Mr. Urban shared that he values face-to-face communication. He enjoys listening and connecting. He's a lifelong learner and frequently seeks input from others to make informed, and thoughtful decisions.
Mr. Urban's educational background includes a bachelor's degree from Providence College and a master's degree from Boston College. In his post-graduate years, he has continued his education with certificates from institutions like the NYS Department of Education and The College of Saint Rose.
Stepping into his new role on July 8, 2024, one of Mr. Urban’s top priorities will be to immerse himself in the District and experience the history, traditions, people, and events that make it such a special place for so many people. “I am most excited to meet as many students, staff, and families as soon as possible and learn more about what makes Greenville such a special place to learn and grow.”
