On October 22nd, a group of 22 students from the High School Technology and Science Clubs went on an exciting field trip to the ETEC building at the University at Albany. The students were immediately captivated by the impressive structure of the ETEC building, which is a LEED Platinum building. The building has rooftop gardens, geothermal heating, permeable pavement and many other environmentally sound building technologies.
The tour began with a visit to the NYS Mesonet, a cutting-edge weather monitoring network that provides valuable data for forecasting and research. The students were fascinated by the array of sensors and the real-time data displayed on the screens. Students learned about the Atmospheric Sciences, Cybersecurity, and Artificial Intelligence, fields that are projected to have significant growth in the future. Students also explored the makerspace lab, where they had the opportunity to engage with various technological tools and equipment, sparking their creativity and innovation. The students were treated to a lunch break in the campus center, allowing them to experience a taste of college life.
The field trip to the ETEC building at the University at Albany proved to be a valuable and enriching experience for our students. One student proudly proclaimed that he was going to attend UAlbany! Greenville would like to thank Michael Baumgardner, Assistant Dean of Public Engagement and Enrollment of the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity and the numerous Student Ambassadors who gave their time and talents for this wonderful day!
