no school

Last night, the Board of Education approved a revision to the 2023-24 School District Calendar to reflect an additional day off on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 as a result of not using all of the allotted Emergency Closing Days this school year. Greenville Central School District plans for five emergency closing days (snow days) each year and to date, has only used three. If the remaining Emergency Closing Days are needed before May 28, the District reserves the right to retain this additional day off as a school day.

We only used three Emergency Closing days but we plan for five, shouldn’t we be getting two days off?
While we often refer to weather-related school closings as “snow days,” they are technically Emergency Closing Days. This means the allotted five days are to be used if an emergency occurs, for example, a snowstorm, ice storm, power outage, flooding, water main break, etc. While the District only used three “snow days” this year, only one day is “given back” in order to retain one day in the event of an emergency between now and the end of this school year.

Has the District ever done this before?
Yes. The last time the District didn’t use all the allotted Emergency Closing Days was during the 2021-22 school year. Two emergency closing days were used, two days were given back around Memorial Day Weekend, and one day was retained in case of an emergency.
