Earlier this month, the State Education Department (SED) approved Greenville's Capital Project, which was passed by voters in December of 2022.
Superintendent Michael Bennett says "This approval sets off a chain of events within the district, events that we're very excited about. Once the project was approved, our architect and construction management group put the project out to bid. We anticipate these bids will be awarded at the May 2nd Board of Education meeting."
SEI Design Group is the project's architect and Schoolhouse Construction Services is the project's construction management group. Bids were put out in four areas: general construction, mechanical construction, electrical construction, and plumbing construction. The District received bids in all four areas. More information will be shared about the specific bids after the Board of Education meeting later this week.
When asked about a project start date, Bennett shared, "Construction will begin in late spring/early summer, likely in the month of June. We reached out to the teachers whose classrooms will impacted over the summer to plan for packing arrangements. Our goal is to keep instructional interruptions to a minimum."
In the months leading up to the vote, Greenville School District held three district-wide community forums and answered questions virtually to provide all members of the community with ample opportunities to learn about the project, ask questions, share concerns, and provide feedback.
