Golf: The Greenville Spartans Varsity Golf team had a hard-fought season, ending with a record of 9-4. The Spartans performed better than expected and finished third in the Patroon Conference. Head coach Rob Gray said, “All of the golfers improved, which is all a coach can ask for.” Senior golfer Jacob Miller was the first seed for Greenville and was the only Spartan who qualified for sectionals. Additionally, he was one of only seven golfers to qualify for Patroons.
Volleyball: The Lady Spartans Volleyball team finished with an outstanding record of 15-1 this season, they ended up placing second in the Patroon Conference behind Maple Hill. The girls were knocked out by a tough Stillwater team in the second round of sectionals, however, Senior Kimber Marcello said the team played really well regardless of the loss. Throughout the season, Olivia Hughes and Brianna Shutter had many of the service points for the team while Shea Landversicht and Avonlea Perish led the team in kills. Before Shea’s injury, she was one of the team's key players. Overall, the team played incredibly well this season and the seniors will be very missed.
Cross Country: Varsity Cross Country went 10-2 this season, won the Greene County Championships, and placed second during Patroons. Led by captains Kaleb Pettit, Emily Smith, Anna Styer, and Mikeala Crawley the team didn’t let injuries hold them back. Cowen Wilber and Emily Smith both had an outstanding season, and Kaleb Pettit also played a big role in helping the Spartans success. The team competes at Sectionals on Saturday, November 4th.
Tennis: The Varsity Tennis team won the Patroon Conference championship and earned second place in sectional play. The team only lost one match, against Hudson, however faced them again later in the season and came out on top. Star player Bryn Fitzmaurice took first place in individual conference play and made it to the quarter-finals in individual sectionals, losing one match to Shenendehowa.
Girls Varsity Soccer: The Girls Varsity Soccer team made it to the sectional semi-finals and won the Patroon Conference championship while going undefeated this season and only tying one game. Captain Ella Grupe says “Overall, everyone on the team played very well throughout the season and everyone made improvements.” Emerson Grupe and Ella Mulholland held up the attacking line, while Julia Reinhard and Ella Grupe helped support the midfield, finally, Caroline Kosich on defense and Cameron Childs in goal helped keep opponent goals to a minimum all season. Senior Spartan Emersyn Grupe was even voted Athlete of the Week by the Times Union, which is an amazing accomplishment. Senior captain Ella Mulholland said, “I am very proud of how far the team came this season and the success we had throughout the season.”
Boys Varsity Soccer: The Boys Varsity Soccer team won the Patroon Conference finals against Maple Hill and placed second in sectionals. Their record for the season was 14-3-1. Led by captains Harrison McAneny, Joseph Davis, and Caleb Motta, the boys had a great season with Tadhg Russell as Head Coach and Jared McAneny as Assistant Coach. Senior captain Harrison McAneny said, “Although we couldn’t make it over the final bump, I am super happy with how the season went because we had great team chemistry and we weren’t expecting to get this far.” Head coach Tadhg Russell said “The Greenville boys varsity soccer team won the Patroon Conference and made it to the Class B Section 2 Finals, where they lost a close game to Mechanicville. We will look to reload next year to make another impressive run!”
